Rally Day 1

Current Location: Gulf State Park, Gulf Shores, Alabama

Though we’ve been here for a couple days now, today is the official start of the Mississippi/Alabama Chapter of the Heartland Owners’ Club Spring Rally. There are about 30 Heartland travel trailers here and around 60 or so members in attendance.

This morning, we ran out to take care of a couple of errands. First, to visit Al’s 5 and 10 store. It wasn’t quite as fun to wander around as Dick’s 5 and 10 in Branson, but was something to do, nonetheless. After that, we headed to Walgreen’s to get Malcolm’s monthly prescription filled. Fortunately, we’ve hit our deductible for the year now, so his prescription was around $19 instead of $168. That will help the medical part of our budget (at least until next year).

After shopping, we headed back to the trailer for lunch. We walked around for a bit and visited with a few other club members, then took a short bike ride around the campground. We picked up post cards at the campground store and filled them out to send to various family members. After that, Malcolm laid down with a headache while Val cooked scones in the kitchen.

We ran to our favorite pizza place here in Gulf Shores for an early dinner, browsed around Souvenir City and headed back to the campground. Today’s rally event was an ice cream social at 6:00 PM. We all brought our chairs to the chapter leader’s trailer and enjoyed ice cream and toppings. We went around an introduced ourselves to the group and generally just visited with each other until dark.
