Two Different Directions

It’s been a week since our last post, so we thought we’d catch up real quick.

Malcolm is out in southern California on a business trip. He flew out on Sunday (Mar. 2) and is staying in the Laguna Hills area, working in Irvine. He is assisting his co-workers during installation of new equipment and providing troubleshooting skills. The installation and testing activities occur overnight, so Malcolm was up all day Tuesday and started work at 3:30 PM. He dropped into bed about 11:00 AM today. He will be working locally tomorrow and Friday (daytime hours, presumably) and flies back home on Saturday.

Val arrived on Tuesday afternoon in Seattle to visit the grandbabies. She flew out of Atlanta, leaving the campground early Tuesday morning. She had a long day of travel that started with getting David’s car jump-started (the battery went flat on her the night before). She’s having fun visiting the family and returns next Tuesday.

On Saturday, we got a lot of stuff done on the house, including a lot of outdoor landscaping and trim painting in the rooms that were going to be carpeted. The carpet folks arrived Monday morning and were done pretty quickly. The new carpet looks great. When Malcolm returns, he will be running over to the house and taking care of a few other things. The interior of the house is pretty much empty now, with most remaining things in the garage corralled up there.

We’ve been giving some of our friends various pieces of furniture and, whatever is left on Monday will be going to a local charity (they are coming over to pick it all up). We did give our piano to a young lady that answered our somewhat hurriedly placed ad last Friday. She and her Mom came to look at it Saturday morning and brought back a crew to move it later in the afternoon. She even sent us a picture to show us where it landed in her living room and to let us know it arrived safely. We were so happy to have given such a special piece to someone that will love and care for it.

More Family Fun

Yesterday, David and Elizabeth got a chance to go out for lunch and have some great brother/sister time together. Nana and Pa kept track of the grandchildren. Elizabeth surprised Malcolm by taking him out for a daddy/daughter date after dinner. They went to Wild Waves to see the Christmas lights and ride the rollercoasters and other rides in the cold and dark. They had a great time.

Today was mostly a relaxing day. Cole went to work on his boat for a while. Various others of us napped or relaxed. Violet and Malcolm made their near-daily trip across the street to feed carrots to the two horses that live there. Malcolm and Val ran a box of items to the post office to ship to the house (though our mail is being held until January 21st).

Here are a few pictures just for fun.

Church and Other Sunday Events

This morning, we got up and went to church at Foursquare Church in Puyallup with Elizabeth and the girls. It was a great service. Scarlet spent the morning in the nursery, but Violet spent the service with us in the auditorium. After we got home, we changed clothes and had lunch out at Taco Time.

Back from lunch, some of us (Malcolm and the girls) had naps. Others watched football or did whatever. Cole has been over helping his uncle and a friend work on his boat the last couple of days. (Or, as Violet would correct me – HER boat).

This evening, we cooked dinner in after some rousing Zumba dancing in the living room. We capped the evening off with a run to Elements Frozen Yogurt for some tasty dessert. Once back to the house, David spent some time wearing out the girls so they’d be ready for bed.

Christmas Lights at the Zoo

Today, we went to the Point Defiance Zoo Christmas light show. It was a fun walk through the zoo to see all the various light exhibits. It was very busy, but fun. Here are a bunch of pictures from the zoo light show, and a few leftover from Christmas day.

Christmas in Washington

With all the holiday happenings, we haven’t kept the blog up to date, so here’s a quick summary of the last several days.

Monday – We picked up David and headed to a hotel in Atlanta near the airport. We paid $10 extra for our room and got the park and fly plan. We can leave the truck in the hotel lot free for up to 7 days, and $13 a day after that. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was good, too. We were on the 12th floor with a good view of the airport and downtown Atlanta in the distance.

Tuesday – We were up early to catch the airport shuttle from the hotel to the airport. We had an 8:15 AM flight going out, so we were downstairs around 6:30 to wait for the next shuttle. Even though the airport was busy, we got through security pretty quickly and were at our gate in plenty of time. The flight went smooth, though we had a late start.

Once on the ground, we drove to Elizabeth and Cole’s house in Cole’s car that he left at the airport for us. We got there in time to see some of the family they were entertaining. Later in the evening, we got dressed up and went to Cole’s parents’ house for a get-together with family.

Wednesday – We opened gifts, though the grandchildren got the majority of the gifts. We surprised our son David by letting him know he is going to Disney World with us right after we get back from Seattle, so we will have three of us traveling to Orlando, then on to Tampa for the RV show there.

There were a few gifts for the grown-ups, though.

On Wednesday evening, we all headed to Cole’s family’s house again for Christmas dinner and gift exchange. It is always a fun and noisy time. A great way to spend Christmas evening.

Thursday – The day after Christmas was a more relaxing day. We sat around the house and played with toys. Malcolm, Cole and Violet went shopping at Home Depot, Costco and the boat shop.

Friday – We had waffles for breakfast, played with toys, organized the house a bit, then headed to Trackside Pizza for lunch. After lunch, the girls went to the library and the boys wandered through a store before heading back for nap time.
