Current Location: Holiday RV Park, North Platte, Nebraska
This morning, we got rolling early (7:15 or so) to try to beat any incoming weather. We drove through one band of rain as we headed north on US 81 through Kansas. Once we got into Nebraska, however, the rain was behind us and it was sunny and pleasant all the way here.
We hadn’t originally planned on Nebraska for today (other than to pass through heading north), but when we got to I-80, we had a choice to turn west and potentially into weather at the western end of the state, or turn east then north on up to I-90.
We looked at the weather maps, radar, etc. on the Weather Channel app and determined that most everything will have moved south or dissipated by tonight. Plus, we didn’t make it all the way to the western end of the state, so we saved some potential weather that way, as well.
The plan now is to travel west on I-80 to I-25, then north on I-25 to pick up I-90 in Wyoming. From there, we will take I-90 on into Washington state. We don’t have to be there until Monday, so we’ve got easy driving days ahead of us (averaging less than 300 miles a day). We will do any visiting or sightseeing on the way back east in a few weeks.
Today’s drive was pretty easy. US 81 north from Kansas into Nebraska was four-lane all the way and had only a couple traffic lights the whole way. We pulled into the campground here around 2:00 PM. We drove around town a little after stopping by the Fort Cody Trading Post to do a little souvenir shopping. After our tour of the town, we stopped back by Penny’s Diner for some good diner type food for dinner.
Lots of states on the license plate game today – 31.
